Scores are editorial research signals, not guarantees of execution quality or trading results. The Crypto filter includes brokers with crypto access and dedicated venues. Webull remains a BROKER; OKX, Binance, and Bitget are labeled CRYPTO VENUE. Crypto venue rows are partner-sourced and use a dash where broker-specific fields are not directly comparable. TradingView is a charting tool, not a broker; order execution, margin, and account protection come from the connected brokerage. Fees, eligibility, and features can change, so verify the linked official source before funding an account.
HOW THE RANKING WORKS
Our score is designed to narrow research, not replace your own due diligence. Market fit comes before a universal leaderboard.
We separate futures execution, stock and options workflows, charting companions, and crypto venues so each comparison starts with the right job.
Published commission is only one line item. We also surface platform plans, data, margin and the practical tools needed to place and manage a trade.
We start with official pricing and feature pages, record when each data set was checked and call out gaps or jurisdiction-dependent terms.
A BETTER SHORTLIST
Start with execution. Hotkeys, DOM or ladder trading, bracket orders and reliable order status matter more than a long indicator list when a strategy is active.
Then check total cost. Add commissions, contract fees, data, platform subscriptions, margin requirements and the cost of the market data you actually need.
Separate broker from platform. A broker holds your account and routes trades; a platform is the software you use to research and execute. Some companies do both, while charting tools may connect to a separate broker.
QUICK ANSWERS
Short answers to the questions that change which platform belongs on your shortlist.
There is no single best platform for every trader. Interactive Brokers offers the broadest multi-asset access and API. Charles Schwab / thinkorswim leads in stock and options tools. NinjaTrader is purpose-built for futures. The right choice depends on which markets you trade, your experience level and which tools matter most to you.
Webull and Fidelity are accessible starting points with intuitive interfaces, commission-free stock and ETF trading, and educational resources. NinjaTrader offers free simulated trading for futures beginners. thinkorswim has paperMoney for practice without risking live capital. Look for paper trading, clear interfaces and low costs when starting out.
NinjaTrader is our primary recommendation for dedicated futures traders. It provides futures-specific tools including DOM trading, bracket orders, Market Replay, simulated trading and strategy development with NinjaScript. Interactive Brokers and TradeStation also support futures with competitive pricing.
Interactive Brokers is generally considered the strongest choice for short sellers due to its large borrow inventory, Stock Yield Enhancement Program (SLB), transparent borrow fees and global market access. TradeStation and thinkorswim also offer short-selling capabilities for US equities.
Not always. FINRA adopted new intraday margin standards that become effective June 4, 2026, replacing the legacy Pattern Day Trader framework. Firms can transition to the new approach through October 20, 2027, so some brokers may still apply the older $25,000 threshold during the transition. Cash accounts, futures accounts and crypto venues follow different rules. Check your broker's current margin policy before trading. Last verified: August 2, 2026.
NinjaTrader (full simulation with replay), thinkorswim (paperMoney), Interactive Brokers (paper trading account), Webull (built-in paper trading), TradeStation (simulated trading) and TradingView (paper trading via connected broker or built-in) all offer paper trading. Fidelity has limited simulation tools.
A broker or brokerage holds and administers your account and routes orders. Any regulatory protections depend on the entity, account type and jurisdiction. A trading platform is the software interface you use to view charts and place orders. Some companies are both, such as Interactive Brokers; others, like TradingView, connect to separate brokers for execution.
TradingView supports connected broker integrations including Interactive Brokers, TradeStation, OANDA and others. You can view charts on TradingView and route orders through your connected broker. Available integrations vary by region and account type. Check TradingView's brokers page for the current list.
Key features include: fast order entry (hotkeys, DOM), bracket/OCO orders, real-time Level II data, low latency execution, competitive total costs (not just advertised commission), intraday margin, paper trading for practice, charting quality, API access for automation, and reliable uptime. Prioritize based on your specific market and strategy.
